Hey kindly seafarers and woodspeople

Stereogum have dropped us - from their renowned gumdrop thingimo. So if you go here http://stereogum.com/the-gum-drop/song.php?tid=81701 you can listen to a new song from Zounds - entitled Answer is Zero.

Oh boy! I can’t wait for this record to be out!!! It’s such a banger!

Yes. It was dirty. It was smelly. There was some light beverages consumed. And I can remember enjoying a good laugh at least once.

Splendour was a ripper. Here are 12 highlights.

1. The frog in our toilet.

2. Josh Pyke flogging the new Decoder Ring album by screaming at wasted kids at 12.30 on Sunday night. And also reminding some of them to “keep it real”.

3. The Flaming Lips.

4. Our really enjoyable set.

5. NOT the mornings.

6. Our delightful breakfast in Bangalow on the Sunday morning in celebration of Mads’ birthday. It must be said, however, that someone kicked up a big scene about eating breakfast at lunch time but still calling it breakfast. So immature.

7. Dancing to “All the single ladies” in the carpark of the festival. I was Beyonce. Wasted people trying to drive were the crowd.

8. Ping pong. I won.

9. All of the bands. Stand outs were Bluejuice, the Flaming Lips, Sarah Blasko, Augie March and Metallica.

10. Tim Derricourt’s lamb kebabs. Full of lovely lamb and untainted with salmonella. Just the way I like them.

11. Angry dudes in Byron who give you death stares when you’re in a van. Hey. We’re angry too. See you in Wollongong.

12. Playing a festival in a lovely location with adequate bathroom facilities and not a 6 pack of cascade light and a litre of gin with no mixer (except 1 redbull) on the rider.

Ace.

G’Day!

We’ve posted the LYRICS to The Price on our myspace page for anyone who would like to take a look.

Meanwhile here are the lyrics to Cold as Ice by Foreigner. See you up in Byron where we’ll be “catching tan” and “surfing tube”.

You’re as cold as ice, you’re willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice, someday you’ll pay the price, I know

Ive seen it before, it happens all the time
Youre closing the door, you leave the world behind
Youre digging for gold, youre throwing away
A fortune in feelings, but someday youll pay

Youre as cold as ice, youre willing to sacrifice our love
You want paradise, but someday youll pay the price, I know

Ive seen it before, it happens all the time
Youre closing the door, you leave the world behind
Youre digging for gold, youre throwing away
A fortune in feelings, but someday youll pay

(solo)

Cold as ice - you know that you are
Cold as ice - as cold as ice to me
Cold as ice

Youre as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know, yes I know
Youre as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know, oh yes I know
Youre as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know, oh yes I know
Youre as cold as ice… (to fade)

All that she wants…

Hey

I like this clip. It’s by Aleks and the ramps. They seem like fun people. I will be sure to invite them to my next mixed gender party.

Also Spinner.com has announced The Price to America. Here.

Feel free to listen to it on US soil. Even leave a comment like this:

“Dear Dappled Cities. On my recent migration north to procreate in warm shallows I chanced upon your song. It is truly excellent and good for getting the juices flowing in certain situations. Kind regards, Robert. “

Hey hey hey hey.

We recorded a lovely version of The Price and also a cover of Animal Collective’s “My Girls” for triple J’s Like a Version. But then we forgot to tell you that it was on air. Woops.

Either way you can listen in retrospect here, on triple J’s website.

It’s madshit.

It seems that all we ever do of late is ask young people to do something - youth arts, youth dance and now a youth workshop. But what can you do - they are our future!

On the 22nd of July indent is holding a workshop (part of a regional series) which will teach young people about many aspects of the music industry. It’s probably mostly about how to hold excellent gatherings, giving sound advice on frisbies and teaching them to respect old people on public transport.

But for my part, I’m gonna be showing the youth how to write a song - or at least how to do it my way (which you will find out is quite extaordinary by many standards, including some international ones). So check out the flyer below and if you are young or can pass under a height measurement device that I am currently constructing, then please feel free to attend said workshop. Check out indent.net.au for more info.

Aren’t bassoons just such a lovely instrument! Just absolutely a delight to listen to.
